Q & A with Anneke Birkenstock, 16, student illustrator.
What styles of illustration do you enjoy the most?
Anime and Manga.
What inspires you?
I love watching Japanese animation. Death Note by Tsugumi Ohba and manga artist Takeshi Obata is probably my favourite – it involves a lot of thought and is really well made.
Why did you chose to spend your work experience placement with Orion?
I can thank my mum for finding you guys! Mothers are very good researchers. I just knew I wanted to do something with graphics and illustration because I really enjoy it.
What have you been working on this week?
I’ve been practicing creating designs and logos from examples of client briefs. I’m using the program Illustrator. This is the first time I’ve used it. I think it’s awesome.
Has there been a highlight of the week?
I’ve enjoyed it all! But I’m loving using Illustrator.
Do you have an online portfolio?
My sister has set me up with a WordPress site and I’ll be loading it up with some of my drawings. I also really enjoy photography too.
What are your career aspirations?
I’d really like to get into gaming graphics or anime illustration.
