Get to know Scott

Scott Roberts

Scott Roberts

Scott is our Team Lead and has been working at Orion for over six years. In-between assigning staff to projects, providing guidance and making sure everything stays on track, quoting jobs, handling a lot of our IT and development work; he’s also a graphic designer who handles major campaigns and ongoing work for key clients. It’s a lot of work, but he always takes it in his stride with good humour.

He’s mad for music, movies, The Simpsons and sci-fi/fantasy series like The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones and Westworld. Scott’s also our very own Beardy McBeard-face, with facial hair that has been described by many as both “epic” and “luxurious”. Whenever the phone rings, it’s a pretty safe bet that it’s a client calling for Scott, whether it’s to get a quote organised for a new project, an urgent request, or just a quick chat about work in progress. But despite feeling that some days the phone is ringing off the hook for him, he says it’s nice to feel “so damn popular.”

Quick Q’s

How long have you been working at Orion?

I’ve been at Orion for 7 years this coming July. I started out as a Junior Designer. Amazingly I still get to work with some of the clients I worked with on my very first day!

What would an ‘average day at the office’ look like for you?

My average day involves lots of emails and phone calls! When those are out of the way, I split my time between designing/coding websites and email campaigns, as well as helping staff with any issues that arise on their projects. I will also organise, quote and assign jobs to the other staff members and do my best to make sure everyone and everything is on track!

What have you been most proud of during your time here?

I’m proud of the team we’ve built here, we’ve managed to have a solid core team who have stuck together through the years and can handle most anything that’s thrown their way. It’s also been great to see the business grow from 3-4 people when I started, to at some points having almost 15 staff in the office. We also pushed live a rebrand in the last year or so, and it’s been nice to see the good feedback and new clients that came from it.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like seeing bands, collecting records and playing guitar in my down time. I also have an unhealthy obsession with the game Overwatch at the moment. But I can definitely quit any time I like…

What are you watching/listening to right now?

I finally purchased a Spotify account in 2016, so I’ve been listening to everything! While I prefer the heavier side of music I’ve definitely been known to get down to some truly awful pop and hip-hop.

Fav movies/TV shows/bands of the year?

My favourite records from last year were the new releases from Architects, Every Time I Die, local Sydney heroes Trophy Eyes and of course my boy Kanye. I’ll give Stranger Things the nod for best TV show of 2016 and Rogue One was my favourite movie of the year.

Any travel/work stories you can share?

Last year I got to step foot into North Korea for a little bit, which was a pretty crazy experience. On my way there I saw areas full of land mines, tanks and lots of teenage soldiers with machine guns. I also had to sign an agreement saying that South Korea wasn’t responsible if a North Korean soldier killed me. It was quite a day!
