Space Ninjas crash website launch

What better way to launch a new website than to make a game of it?

We reckon a game of custom-designed Space Invaders is the perfect way to launch the new Orion website, and we want you to play! Dust off your old arcade-era know-how, flex your space bar and pit your skills against the tenacious invading aliens. And if you can do it better than anyone else, you’ll win $500!*. Competition closes November 1.

Harmony collection rocks Ontera

Working alongside Kevin Harkin, Jeremy Mead and the Ontera team on the campaign for Harmony Collection has been great fun. The Harmony Collection is a range of carpet designs inspired by nature. We fully realised this connection to nature right across the campaign; from website to signage, logo design, brochures, photography, package design, email marketing, stationery, printing, and video production. We developed for the client a number of techniques to streamline the efficiency of the campaign and minimise costs for the client; a dedicated in-house photography studio (with magic powers) was one such technique.

Giving kids a running start

Run for the Hills!

Relax – this is not an order, but an exciting new charity event. Combining healthy outdoor activity with fundraising for kids, Run for the Hills is just the type of thing we like to be a part of. Orion Creative signed up as a gold partner of this worthwhile event. While we were at it, we offered to put their website together, too.

That post-holiday glow

Your website is one of the most important ways to communicate with your clients. At Orion we think of our site as our hardest working employee, tirelessly out there 24/7, getting to know clients on our behalf. That’s not to say our other employees (pictured) aren’t hard working, too – but for one selfish reason or another they all demand regular leisure time.

Our website on the other hand had worked non-stop for 627 days with not so much as a coffee break, so it was finally time to indulge our best employee. After a sojourn of mud packs and cocktails by the pool, our website is back, looking – we think you’ll agree – refreshed and sporting a glorious post-holiday glow.

Great for schools…even better for parents

Scrunched up notes glued with squashed banana to the bottoms of school bags will be a thing of the past, thanks to the good people at Active School Apps. This versatile app-based system makes communication a breeze for a school community, saving a whole lot of paper at the same time.

Of course, a product as innovative and user friendly as Active School Apps needs a website and marketing to match. This is where Orion came in.

Update Your Browser

Update your browser or pay! That’s the message coming from online electronics retailer Kogan.com, who have introduced an ‘Internet Explorer Tax’ of 6.8% on any product you buy from the site.

iPads, smartphones and orangutans

It was recently reported that some orangutans in Miami zoo are using iPads as part of a learning program to increase communication with their trainers. As well as being a well-timed story for the recent release of the new iPad (nice work Apple), it also highlights the growing dominance of mobile computer technology on our daily lives.

Let’s catch up

It’s been a long time since we last spoke. We’ve been busy building websites: designing them, coding them, writing content for them and sending them into the big wide world. Here’s a rundown of some of our newest developments.

What is graphic design…and where is it headed?

In non-geek speak, graphic design is used to assist businesses in developing communications tools to represent them. Telling the crowds we are engineers or artists is a little misleading, we are in the business of communicating business. User-interface is becoming more commonly user-friendly and communications are being unified to send consistent messages to the consumer. Graphic designers make messages easier to digest and unify business messages.
