Social Media for Business: Instagram

Instagram is a free photo-sharing app with over 130 million active users! Users have shared over 16 billion photos and the app has cemented itself as the number one photo-based social media service. Instagram bills itself as a fun, quirky way to share photos. Allowing users to snap photos on their phone, apply vintage filters and immediately upload to all their followers. You can also share these photos with others across social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Responsive web design: why go mobile?

Until quite recently, websites were designed to be viewed on desktop computers.

With the explosion of visitors now coming online via mobile phones and tablets, as web designers and developers we’re taking a fresh look at what defines a good user experience.

What is kinetic typography?

Kinetic typography literally means ‘moving type’; and refers to the dynamic presentation of words, characters and images in a video.

We’ve seen different approaches to the time-based movement of words since opening titles and captioning in the early days of film. But sorry, if you’ve ever been told that highly trained fleas are used its making, then I’m afraid that person is having you on.

Most recently, kinetic typography (also known as kinetic text) has made an impact as a demonstration or educational tool. Businesses have found that kinetic typography videos  create an engaged audience, so are a great way to communicate a key message about a product or service.

Space Invaders competition winner announced

Space Invaders competition winner Alan Ling (left) receives a $500 cheque from Orion Creative’s Managing Director, Mark Rowe.

With a mind boggling score of 111420, Alan Ling more than doubled the score of the second highest placegetter – his daughter, Meaghan.

Third place goes to Peter Simmonds, with a number of others following closely behind on the leaderboard.

Mr Ling’s score was so incredibly high in fact that we needed to see it for ourself. We invited Alan into the office to demonstrate his prowess. He kindly accepted the challenge and joined us this morning to show us his winning style.

Space Ninjas crash website launch

What better way to launch a new website than to make a game of it?

We reckon a game of custom-designed Space Invaders is the perfect way to launch the new Orion website, and we want you to play! Dust off your old arcade-era know-how, flex your space bar and pit your skills against the tenacious invading aliens. And if you can do it better than anyone else, you’ll win $500!*. Competition closes November 1.

That post-holiday glow

Your website is one of the most important ways to communicate with your clients. At Orion we think of our site as our hardest working employee, tirelessly out there 24/7, getting to know clients on our behalf. That’s not to say our other employees (pictured) aren’t hard working, too – but for one selfish reason or another they all demand regular leisure time.

Our website on the other hand had worked non-stop for 627 days with not so much as a coffee break, so it was finally time to indulge our best employee. After a sojourn of mud packs and cocktails by the pool, our website is back, looking – we think you’ll agree – refreshed and sporting a glorious post-holiday glow.

Great for schools…even better for parents

Scrunched up notes glued with squashed banana to the bottoms of school bags will be a thing of the past, thanks to the good people at Active School Apps. This versatile app-based system makes communication a breeze for a school community, saving a whole lot of paper at the same time.

Of course, a product as innovative and user friendly as Active School Apps needs a website and marketing to match. This is where Orion came in.

This won’t hurt, we promise!

An eye-catching illustration often lingers in the mind of a customer along with its message.

Several of our graphic designers are also skilled illustrators who delight in the chance to get out their coloured pencils to help clients get a message across.
